DIGIPAK ANALYSIS
DIGIPAK ANALYSISUNCONVENTIONAL

1000 Forms of Fear was released in July 2014 and sold over 52,000 copies within its first week on the market. The album debuted atop the US Billboard 200 within the first week and as of January 2015, the album has sold 177,000 copies in the US. Earlier, in 2013, Sia released Elastic Heart, which lead to her rise in prominence in the music industry for the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. She is known for her strong vocals and her music is a combination of hip hop, funk and soul.
The picture on the album cover may be symbolic of her fears; whether she would maintain her success, and the contrast between her own self and her star persona. This is an interesting album cover as it is very unconventional in the sense that the artist does not appear on the album. This could suggest her desire to be unique and noticed by a wider audience, and to emphasise this point, "musical guest Sia always does something unpredictable and genius too!" "Pure Heroine" is Lorde's first debut album. Unlike other artists she unconventionally did not show her face on her debut album. Regardless of going with the conventions her album was extreemly successful. She is the first New Zealand singer to go to top 100 Billboard, she has been regarded as the influencer of the new era of pop. Furthermore she was praised for her skillful voalisation and the creativity in producing pop songs. Her song "Royals" has become one of the sensations of pop in the twentieth century. I feel like the cover of an album does not need to portray the singer's face but rather portray the song's emotions. A song is conveying emotions and albums, singers and colours are just different parts that contributed to the song. Therefore focusing more on simplicity would convert the audience's attention more to the beautiful songs produced. Moreover it is extremely interesting and contradicting as the album names "Pure Heroine" but the colour is actually dark.

GETTING TO KNOWDIGIPAKS
Digipak is a style of optical disc packaging, a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood, an Atlas Holdings LLC company.
Digipak often consist of a gatefold (a gatefold is a type of fold used for advertising around a magazine or section, and for packaging of media such as the phonographic industry) paper or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic tray to put a CD/DVD into.
Since digipak is like a jewel case to major record company, it is often used generically. Digipak-style packaging often used for CD singles or special album release. It's also used as a premium package for DVDs or DVD sets such as the concert of the artist. Some of the packaging that are made out of paper mostly wear out faster than plastic (unless you drop it or step on it). Digipak and CD can also be damage by UV ray so licensed digipak manufacturers such as domestic U.S. printer and disc replicator Oasis Disc Manufacturing recommend coating the raw printed paper with a protective UV coating (the substance in you sunscreen), thus ensuring greater longevity.
The tray of the CD must be the strongest out of the whole digipak, it should remain brittle and prone to cracking if the package is crushed. Digipak peak it top point in the early 2000s.
Nowadays manufacture try to find a way to reduce the coat of the digipak and have sough to reduce environmental impact and improve functionality y using recyclable material being PET tray from recycled bottle. They also replace the "teeth" (tray) with egg cartons. Many printers use recycled or sustained material for the board stock. There are many different styles of digipaks which have different templates as seen on the left, the numbers of panels varies for each digipak design.
